Sometimes the coins we mint aren’t quite what you expect to find in your change.
This is an example of a minting error known as a bottle top. This one surprisingly
is also a double header.
A bottle top begins as a brockage. If the press doesn’t stop, several blanks
will land in the collar and continually be pressed. There is no space for the
excess metal so it is pushed around the die, resulting in a bottle top effect.
